Danish composers Emil Friis and Patricio Fraile have collaborated on an impressive new piece titled ‘Copenhagen, February’. In its essence, the piece is meditative and expansive, with a unique sonic universe inspired by both composers’ unique styles and experiences scoring film music of various types. The chords at the core of the track feel nostalgic, inflected with the sounds of Danish jazz. “We’re proud we were able to write a piece that in voicings and mood ended up encompassing the contrasts of Copenhagen,” they say. “The beautiful and magical summer nights by the lakes or the long winter spent longing for the light to return.” The pair’s upcoming contemporary classical full-length, The Expected Sounds Of Minor Music, drops on December 8th, 2023. -Dan Peeke
